A Prayer for the Jewish People

May the One who blessed our ancestors
Abraham and Sarah
Isaac and Rebekah
Jacob and Rachel and Leah
Bilhah and Zilpah
Moses, Aaron and Miriam
David and Solomon
Ruth and Esther,
Bless us Am Yisrael
The Jewish people
[here in this community and]
Wherever they reside.

Bless this nation of
God-wrestlers.
Bless this nation of
Rabbis and rulers
Poets and prophets
Scribes and scholars
Woodchoppers and waterdrawers.

Bless this nation that
Fled from the garden
Weathered the flood
Ventured from the family home
Endured enslavement in the narrow places
Witnessed liberation at the sea
Received wisdom at the mountain
Struggled in the wilderness
Envisioned redemption at the river.

Throughout our story, we have been
Hated and expelled and murdered.
Let us remember the stolen, the lost and the fallen.
And throughout our story, we have been
Resilient and courageous and creative.
Let us remember the defenders, the resistors and the survivors.
With Your protection, Tzur Yisrael, Rock of Israel
May we continue to live and succeed,
And may we continue to hold sacred
The scroll and the land
The rituals and the seasons
The striving and the journey
The exile and the return.

Eloheynu v’Elohey Avoteynu v’imoteynu
Our God and God of our Ancestors,
May all Your people,
By birth or by choice
By culture or by spirit
By heritage or by history,
Be blessed with health and stability and hope.
May we be met with compassion and kindness,
As we extend compassion and kindness to others.
May those who provide for the needs of our community
Find satisfaction through the work of their hands.
May those who maintain our holy spaces
Be uplifted along with those who inhabit them.
May those who lead and guide our people
Be imbued with strength and knowledge and humility.

And may all those of Your covenant find safety and shelter under Your wings:
May those who suffer find healing.
May those who are captive find release.
May those who transgress find forgiveness.
May those who mourn find comfort.

May we bless those who bless us,
May we commit to do and to learn.
May we always remember and protect,
May we proclaim Oneness and love.
May we act justly, love mercy, and walk humbly,
May we live righteously guided by trust.
May we choose and preserve life,
May we seek peace, and pursue it.
May we not desist from the work, even though we may not complete it,
And that which is hurtful to us, may we not do to others.

May You, The One who makes peace above, make peace
For us,
For all Yisrael
For all who dwell on earth.
And let us say,
Amen
